COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course will provide the student with meaningful content to explore, engaging real-world problems to solve, and design challenges to meet. True student collaboration is necessary to meet the challenges of the 21st Century. All learning experiences will create a strong need to know and understanding of the material. Students will demonstrate what they learned beyond simply getting a good grade. Critical elements of this course are:
CURRICULUM BASED ON THE NATIONAL HEALTH EDUCATION STANDARDS
The health topical outline as written includes all nine content areas of traditional health education: Alcohol and drug use prevention, injury prevention, nutrition, physical activity, family life and sexuality, mental health, personal and consumer health, and community and environmental health. These content areas also address the top six health risk behaviors indicated by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):
